Vista Oral Surgeon Dr. David Smith is a Montana native who grew up in Lewistown. He completed his undergraduate education at University of Montana and is a graduate of the State University of New York- Stony Brook, where he earned his D.D.S. degree. Dr. Smith then completed a year of general practice residency in general dentistry before specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He completed a 6 year dual degree program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, earning an M.D. at Weill Cornell Medical College as well as a year in general surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital- Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Smith has received several awards, including New York State Dean’s Award, UM Presidential Scholar, and is a Horatio Alger National Scholar.
Dr. Smith began his dental training volunteering as a dental assistant in a federally funded dental clinic for the underserved. He was drawn to the profession and service of others thanks to the dedication and compassion to patients demonstrated by his mentor, Dr. Ryan Huckeby. Dr. Smith works to emulate his role model in all aspects of his career; he has volunteered his services in a cleft lip and palate mission with Smile Bangladesh, in addition to a dental/medical outreach trip to remote areas of northern Madagascar with the Madagascar Ankisy Fund.
Outside of his professional pursuits, David Smith is a die-hard Mets fan, Springsteen enthusiast, and is working on finding a hobby related to the ocean.
